Preparing To Configure Windows. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Computer

I just bought a Toshiba Laptop for a Client with windows 7 home,

As a favour for my clients I usually run windows update for them so they get it all working and are 100% confident that when they get it as up to date as possible,

I ran into the exact same problem as above, i read this thread and read all different reply's but none of them realy worked for me and i didnt have time to wait...

this is what worked for me:

1. Hold down the power button and switch of your machine
2. Restart your computer and just before windows boots hit the F8 button
3. Boot into safe mode
4. login (if nessecary)
5. Make sure that any virus scanners at this point are disabled before continuing
6. Click "Start" > "Accessories" > "System Restore"
7. Click "Next"
8. Pick an earlier restore point and then click next, (its best to pick the 1 just before you had problems)
9. Click next and follow the prompts and it will start a system restore
10. wait till your computer does this System Restore process
11. Regardless of whether the system restore process fails or passes it should now get you out being stuck at "Preparing To Configure Windows. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Computer."

Now...

12. login if required
13 Disable Virus Scanner before moving on
14. Run windows update
15. now it should run without any problems

16. if you do have problems and run into a loop Call your Computer Manufacturer or the company that you purchased it off and see if they can help you,

Fix error audio service is not running

Recently when I rebooted my computer, the audio stopped running. Usually, troubleshooter will automatically fix the problem, but surprisingly in this occasion, even the troubleshooter failed to start. The speaker icon in the notification area had a red cross over it.
Here’s a work around:
Fix error audio service is not running

1. Click on Start, and type Services.msc in the search bar.

2. Scroll through the list of services, right click on Windows Audio and click Start.

If this doesn’t work, make sure, you have started all other dependent services such as Plug and Play, Multimedia Class Scheduler, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder

Mozilla crash reporter keeps popping up

The Mozilla Crash Reporter is a program that sends information to Firefox developers when Firefox crashes. Firefox developers use this information to make future versions of Firefox crash less frequently.

The Mozilla Crash Reporter comes up because Firefox crashes; it does not cause Firefox to crash. For suggestions on how to prevent Firefox from crashing, see Firefox crashes.
Tell Mozilla about this crash so they can fix it: If this box is checked, the Mozilla Crash Reporter will send a summary of the crash to Mozilla. Deselect this box if you don't want to send the report to Mozilla.

Mozilla crash reporter keeps popping up

Will open the "Report Contents" window, where you can view the technical details of the crash.

Add a comment (comments are publicly visible): Use this box to add any further information that might be useful to developers trying to find the cause of the crash. The comments you post may be read by anyone..

Include the address of the page I was on: When checked, the information you send to Mozilla will include the website you visited before the crash.

Email me when more information is available: Check this box if you would be willing to receive emails from the development staff should they need followup information from you about this crash.
Note: Mozilla will NOT e-mail you back unless more information is requested about your crash.

Enter your email address here: If you chose to help our development staff get information and reproduce this crash, provide the email address you wish to be contacted at here.

Quit Firefox: Close the dialog and don't start Firefox again.

Restart Firefox: Start Firefox again. Firefox will give you the option to open the windows and tabs you had open before the crash. If you crash again after choosing to restore your windows and tabs, one of the pages you were on is causing the crash. In this case, choose Start new session.

Disable Debugging script and runtime errors in Internet Explorer

I thought I’d take a couple minutes to talk about Script Debugging and Internet Explorer.

Script debugging is turned off by default you can enable it by going to:
Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced->Disable Script Debugging

Prior to XPSP2 the above will turn script debugging on for all applications that host the WebBrowser control (Outlook for example).

On XPSP2 we’ve split the option into two:
Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced->Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)
Tools->Internet Options…->Advanced->Disable Script Debugging (Other)

When you’ve enabled Script Debugging ‘View->Script Debugger’ will now be present to help you break into the debugger.

The debugger statement can also be placed anywhere in your code to suspend execution this is similar to setting a breakpoint.
The Stop statement is the VBScript version of JScript’s debugger statement.

There are three applications which I’ve used for script debugging. One is Visual Studio.Net, the second is Microsoft Script Debugger and the third is Microsoft Script Editor:

Miscrosoft Script Debugger:
You can obtain a copy of the Microsoft Script Debugger here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2f465be0-94fd-4569-b3c4-dffdf19ccd99&displaylang=en

The main MSDN page for using the Microsoft Script Debugger can be found here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/sdbug/Html/sdbug_1.asp

The Microsoft Script debugger allows you to debug client side and server side scripts and provides the same functionality as most debuggers do.

Directions on using the Microsoft Script debugger can be found here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/sdbug/Html/sdbug_2.asp

Microsoft Script Editor:
The Microsoft Script Editor comes free with Microsoft Office XP/2003 with FrontPage.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnfp2k2/html/odc_fpdebugscripts.asp

Visual Studio.net:
For Visual Studio.net debugging Monica Rosculet has written an excellent article on: Debugging Script Code Using Visual Studio.

Other:
Gregg Miskelly a developer on the Visual Studio team has posted some excellent information about: How Script Debugging Works.
Disable Debugging script and runtime errors in Internet Explorer
Disable Debugging script and runtime errors in Internet Explorer
Disable Debugging script and runtime errors in Internet Explorer

Are you getting annoying messages such as "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug?" or "Internet Explorer Script Error. An error has occurred in the script on line 1. Do you wish to continue running scripts on this page?"

There are three reasons why these problems occur. The first is that the web page author made some programming error. The second reason may be that you are running a pop-up killer that closes pop-up windows so fast that the script on the web page fails. The third is that you might have some adware or spyware installed on your computer that opens the script error pop-ups.

How to disable script and runtime errors
You can configure Internet Explorer to ignore these script and runtime errors. Please follow this step-by-step guide:

1. Open Internet Explorer.

2. Click on Tools, then on Internet Options.

3. Click on the Advanced tab.

4. Look for the "Disable script debugging" line and put a check mark in the box.

5. Now look for the "Display a notification about every script error" line and remove the check mark in the box.
