I just bought a Toshiba Laptop for a Client with windows 7 home,

As a favour for my clients I usually run windows update for them so they get it all working and are 100% confident that when they get it as up to date as possible,

I ran into the exact same problem as above, i read this thread and read all different reply's but none of them realy worked for me and i didnt have time to wait...

this is what worked for me:

1. Hold down the power button and switch of your machine
2. Restart your computer and just before windows boots hit the F8 button
3. Boot into safe mode
4. login (if nessecary)
5. Make sure that any virus scanners at this point are disabled before continuing
6. Click "Start" > "Accessories" > "System Restore"
7. Click "Next"
8. Pick an earlier restore point and then click next, (its best to pick the 1 just before you had problems)
9. Click next and follow the prompts and it will start a system restore
10. wait till your computer does this System Restore process
11. Regardless of whether the system restore process fails or passes it should now get you out being stuck at "Preparing To Configure Windows. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Computer."

Now...

12. login if required
13 Disable Virus Scanner before moving on
14. Run windows update
15. now it should run without any problems

16. if you do have problems and run into a loop Call your Computer Manufacturer or the company that you purchased it off and see if they can help you,

Black screen F8 key unresponsive Can't reboot

The drive is easy to put in.
1 - remove the AC Adapter and battery
2 - open up the case over the hard drive (usually 1 or 2 screws)
3 - lift up on the plastic tab to remove the hard drive
4 - remove the adapter over the SATA/IDE connector (it pulls off)
5 - unscrew 4 screws to remove the drive from the "caddy"
6 - reassemble in reverse.
Since the old drive is bad, you'll definitely need a set of recovery disks. If you don't have them now, you'll have to order them from the link I gave earlier (If in the USA). They usually arrive in a couple of days and it'll take a couple of hours to install.

Turn the computer on, open the CD/DVD drive and put Disk 1 in. Close the drive
Restart the system, tapping Esc as soon as the Compaq splash screen shows up.
Select the CD/DVD drive to boot from - and follow the prompts.

Here's a link to the product manual. Chapter 4 deals with replacing the hard drive: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01523646.pdf

C00D1199 Error message Problem

Error Message C00D1199
So I made a big mistake.
C00D1199 Error message Problem

I got a Flip Video Camera for my birthday. Woot. I could watch the videos with no problem. So I got motivated. I was trying to use the mpeg videos it produces in WMM. I downloaded a codec package, and now I can't watch the originals. I unistalled the darn package, and no change.

The error message I'm getting is C00D1199. From what I can find it's a broad error code for a variety of problems. Can anyone help me?

Ok, there are several way which you could try. The first of which, is installing codecs:

Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 6.1.0 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.1.0 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 6.1.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools

If you download and install this (I would use the full version). Then you should be able to import .mp4 files into WMM and merge them together.

Even though this error is continually being shown randomly on your PC, it's got a set list of causes which need to be fixed in order to get rid of the problem for good. This device cannot start. (Code 10)

The cause of the code 10 error on Windows 7 is all down to the way in which your computer is trying to use the hardware it has. The hardware of your PC are all the components you can touch, including the keyboard, hard drives and other peripherals. In order for Windows to work well with these components, it needs to be able to use "drivers" - small software applications which allow your system to use the various hardware components of your PC. The problem you're seeing is either caused by a faulty driver (which stops Windows working with your hardware), or from damaged parts of your Windows system. If you want to fix the error, you need to be able to repair all possible problems that first causes it to show.

To fix the Windows 7 error 10 on your PC, you need to first update all the drivers which may be faulty or damaged on your system. To do this, you should click onto Start > Control Panel > Device Manager, and then look for any hardware icons that have a small yellow exclamation mark by them. This will basically show you that there is a problem with the specific hardware component on your PC, and will allow you to update the driver for it. After that, you should also update Windows to its latest version, which can be done by clicking Start > All Programs > Windows Update. This will basically allow your computer to upgrade to the latest version, which should incorporate some fixes for the Windows 7 error code 10 problem.

It's also recommended that you use what's known as a "registry cleaner" program. This is a type of software that's designed to scan through your PC and fix any errors that are inside the registry database of Windows. The registry database is essentially a central storage center for all the files, settings and options that your computer needs to use each day, and is what lies at the core of every Windows system. Unfortunately, the registry is one of the biggest causes of errors on your computer, and needs to be constantly fixed to ensure it's not leading your PC to run slower or with errors. To do this, you should download a registry cleaner program from the Internet and then let it scan your PC. It will identify any possible errors inside your computer, and then fix the ones that are causing problems. This will often solve a variety of errors, and has been known to cure the Windows 7 error code 10 as well.

Error Messages : How To Repair Windows Errors

There can be many causes for the error codes on your system. It can be causes by a viruses, malware, spyware, adware or simply a corrupt application. Sometimes, it can be caused by installing a new application without completely removing a conflicting application. This can cause registry corruption or data file corruption or mis-linked files.

Paretologic Regcure offers a state of the art registry cleaner. Running this scan is a excellent way to clean your PC of junk entries and maintain running at its fastest.
What's the windows registry?

The registry holds all the information that windows needs to operate your system. It's a huge database of pointers to all the files that applications need. It tracks all the devices attached to the system as well as the proper files they need to operate. .
Why would the registry need to be cleaned?

Error Messages : How To Repair Windows Errors
Error Messages : How To Repair Windows Errors

As you use your computer over time, deleting files, changing hardware, adding and removing applications, the registry could have a lot of entries that are invalid. This can cause your system to slow down while it loads the registry hives and tries to find everything that it's pointing to. It's kinda like a car with a clogged fuel filter and the gas has to find it's way to the engine.
What do I do to clean the registry?

When you launch a scan with Regcure, it automatically hunts down all the invalid entries in the registry and any other eroneous entries that can be removed. The process is so simple even a novice computer user can operate the appliaction. Once it finds all over the entries you can either remove everything it finds, or you can choose entries to have it remove.
Is there a way to do this manually?

You can remove registry entries manually, but you'd need the necessary expertise to do so. It would be very time consuming even for an advanced PC technician. You also run the risk of removing entries that render your system unbootable. That's never fun!

You should also note that by using Windows Add/Remove tool, very rarely does it remove all the files and registry entries on the system. The fragments it leaves behind can cause problems with future applications and can cause errors and blue screens. We recommend using a third party tool called Perfect Uninstaller to completely remove applications and never leave behind fragments of files or registry entries.
If something is accidently deleted?

Just like other applications, Regcure can make a backup of your registy and set a restore point on your system that allows you to launch the System Restore utility and go back to the same point that you were at the time.

If you're unsure how to launch the System Restore Utility, follow these steps:

You should click on the Start Button, then choose "All Programs"
Next Click on Accessories, System Tools, and choose System Restore.
Choose to restore to an earlier date.
Once you've chosen the restore point, choose Next. (your system will restart and go to an earlier time)

How often should I run Regcure?

You should run Regcure at least once a month or as soon as you begin to see problems or slowness on your system.
